Greece defeated Germany 1-0 on September 27 in a Nations League Group A2 match in Augsburg, Germany. Dimitris Kourbelis scored the only goal in the 74th minute: his low shot following a deflection ended up in the net.

For Germany coach Jürgen Klopp, this was his first home match in charge. He took over the team in July after Germany's early exit from the World Cup. Germany have yet to win in two matches under his leadership: before the game against Greece, they drew 1-1 with the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

Greece's first success against Germany

Greece beat Germany for the first time in history — the teams have played 11 matches against each other. After two rounds, the Greek national team have six points and lead Group A2, while Germany have one point.

The hosts controlled the game and had possession for nearly 80% of the first half, but failed to score. In the 53rd minute, Greece goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis tipped Joshua Kimmich's free kick over the crossbar, and a minute later Felix Nmecha fired wide.

In the 66th minute, Kimmich lost the ball in his own half, but Fotis Ioannidis failed to hit the target. Greece later took their chance and secured a second consecutive victory after beating Serbia 2-1.

Other group matches

In another Group A2 match, the Netherlands beat Serbia 2-1 thanks to a brace from Mexx Meerdink. It was the Dutch team's first victory under new coach Xavi Hernández.

In Group A4, the reigning Nations League champions Portugal defeated Norway 2-1, while Denmark beat Wales 2-0. In Group B3, Ireland defeated Israel 3-0. Channel NewsAsia reports, citing Reuters, on the match results.
